Juice jacking is a new type of cyber-attack that compromise the data found on mobile phones when they are being charged at public charging stations. A malware is surreptitiously sneaked through these charging points into the phone and the personal data is extracted and relayed to the malicious intruder.

Juice Jacking

Juice jacking is a matter of serious concern. Mobile charging points are commonly found at airports, cafeterias and bus stations. but most of these places have USB cable and not adapter attached to wall sockets. And this camouflages the potential presence of malicious device through which malware could invade you phone, hack it and extract sensitive data. If you frequently juice up your mobile phone at public charging stations, its time you owned a “USB condom”. It is a small data blocker that turns a USB cable into a secure charge only cord. While a data blocker can set a person back by anything between $8 to $20, experts said their importance can’t be undermined considering cyber crimes are on the rise. Every USB has several channels to transfer power along with data. Allowing only the power flow required for charging the phone, and blocking the current on the data channels, is the specialty of the device.

Once the data transfer mode is dysfunctional, no malware an enter the pone via USB cable.

Carrying a power only cable, can be one of the other options, but what if you power bank is infected? That is why the data blocker makes the task easier. Data theft is on rise lately. Use data blocker to keep your data safe and charge your phone with full confidence at the public charging points.
